A Poem Exploring the Lord's Prayer, part 4/8
THE CURIOUS METAMORPHOSIS OF LEIGH SITTAY (An Atheist Finding Faith)
“Thy kingdom come”… in camouflage is rule revealed?
Like Aragorn (unlikely monarch) come to lead,
Erase the evil, bind the wounded world (healed)?
Napoleon, Genghis Khan, and Caesar all would wield
A power formidable. Iron-fisted in dreaded deed
Their kingdoms came (though camouflaged, misrule revealed).
But Jesus’ kingship puzzles me; a Sovereign that kneeled
To serve the least of these, and on a cross would bleed:
Erasing evil, binding wounded. World healed.
United States, republic, has no kings, and sealed
Its future in ‘76. Yet to rulers we still plead
Thy “kingdom” come (in fake news is their rule revealed).
In 2024 across the political field
I find no saviors, nor on my Facebook feed
Who’d erase evil, bind the wounded; none healed.
By faith I spot a Captain/King in Christ, whose shield
Is justice and whose liberty sets us free from greed.
Thy kingdom come! In camouflage its rule revealed—
Erase all evil, bind my wounded world: healed.
